Etihad Airways Expands Australian Routes with Increased Flights to Sydney

    September 29, 2026

ABU DHABI / RankWire.AI / — Etihad Airways has officially announced a notable boost to its Oceania route network by raising the frequency of flights on the vital link between the United Arab Emirates and Australia. The national airline of the UAE is set to enhance its schedule on this corridor, providing travelers with more options for departures across key international destinations. This move supports the airline’s broader fleet deployment plan and commercial strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in primary long-haul transit markets. The updated timetable features morning and evening departures from its central hub, facilitating smooth international passenger flow.

Etihad Airways doubles flights between Abu Dhabi and Sydney

Starting July 15, Etihad Airways will double its flights from Abu Dhabi to Sydney, shifting from one daily flight to two per day. This adjustment increases the weekly non-stop services between Zayed International Airport and Sydney Airport from seven to 14. The addition of seven extra flights each week reflects rising market demand for direct premium and economy options connecting Australia with the Middle East and Europe.

To support the expanded schedule, the airline will operate its modern Boeing 777-300ER aircraft along this route. These aircraft feature a two-class cabin layout designed for high passenger volumes. This deployment will significantly boost the total seat capacity, offering thousands of additional seats per week in both directions. Flight EY454 departs from the UAE late in the evening and arrives in Australia the following night, while the return flight EY455 operates as an overnight service.

Enhanced Flight Frequency Strengthens Global Connectivity

Arik De, Chief Revenue Officer at Etihad Airways, stated that the doubling of flights to Sydney reflects the airline’s strong commitment to the Australian market and its ongoing efforts to offer more options for international travelers. He emphasized that this change provides passengers with flexible scheduling and easier access to the expanding global network through the carrier’s hub in the United Arab Emirates. The increased daily flights allow travelers to make optimal connections to major cities across Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, minimizing layover times.

This decision coincides with broader commercial expansion in the Gulf region’s aviation sector, where hub carriers are actively restoring and growing their international route networks. Industry experts highlight that operating double-daily flights is crucial for maintaining competitiveness on long-haul routes linking Asia-Pacific hubs with Western markets. By increasing frequency, the airline enhances its market share on Australian routes, complementing existing daily services to Melbourne and expanding its overall seat capacity across the continent.

Deployment of Boeing 777 Aircraft Elevates Passenger Capacity

The schedule expansion also boosts cargo capacity, enabling Etihad Cargo to provide more belly-hold freight space for international trade between Australia and global markets. This additional volume supports two-way trade, facilitating the transport of perishables, pharmaceuticals, and high-value consumer goods. The continuous operation of dual-daily flights offers freight forwarders reliable, consistent capacity on fixed schedules year-round.

As the new schedule takes effect, Etihad Airways strengthens its Abu Dhabi to Sydney service to enable seamless connections with partner airlines and regional carriers serving domestic Australia. Travel agents and customers can immediately book these new flight options via digital sales channels, global distribution systems, and direct ticketing platforms. This expansion marks a significant milestone in the airline’s long-term network development, cementing its role as a leading international carrier bridging Australia with destinations worldwide.
